Warren and Mary Lynn Staley

United Way is honored to celebrate Warren and Mary Lynn Staley, winners of the Tocqueville Society’s 2008 Outstanding Civic Leadership Award.

The Staleys have been active United Way supporters for many years. In 2002, the Staleys co-chaired a highly successful United Way campaign, galvanizing campaign volunteers to raise $82 million. Warren remained on the board and also served as chairman of the board from 2004-2005.

Both Warren and Mary Lynn, a former schoolteacher, have a special interest in education. Warren served on the board of Minnesota’s Private College Council and the University of St. Thomas College of Business, while Mary Lynn has been active in philanthropic efforts on behalf of Benilde-St. Margaret’s School and many arts organizations, including as a board member for the Ordway Center for Performing Arts. Warren and Mary Lynn serve on the board of governors of Eleven Who Care, a Twin Cities program that recognizes significant contributions to the local community.

Warren served for 10 years as director of the Cargill Foundation and during that time the emphasis was focused towards education. In 2007, Warren retired as chairman of Cargill, Incorporated, but both he and Mary Lynn continue to remain active community volunteers. We salute their continued generosity and commitment to this community.
