Bill Roche

Bill Roche, senior managing director of RSM McGladrey, Inc., was the inaugural winner of the Tocqueville Society Award for Outstanding Civic Leadership from Greater Twin Cities United Way.

The award honors an individual who inspires and motivates other civic leaders, demonstrates service in multiple community efforts and has a tangible community impact.

Roche has played a significant role at United Way since 1989, serving on numerous board committees, including chair of the executive committee from 2000-2001, and most recently as the co-chair of the Children and Families Strategic Planning Committee that announced a comprehensive three-year plan in February 2008.

For Roche, becoming a member of the Tocqueville Society was an easy decision. "I looked at how the needs in this community are outpacing the gifts, and I felt the need to do more," he says. "I feel very good about how my dollars are being invested by United Way. There is no better place to make a broad impact on the community."

"Bill is an inspiration to anyone who meets him," says Richard Davis, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Bancorp and 2006 Tocqueville Cabinet co-chair with his wife, Theresa. His passion for doing what's right in the community and his dedication to United Way are directly in line with the values Tocqueville admired, which is why we are honored to select him as the first recipient of the Tocqueville Award from Greater Twin Cities United Way.

Richard and Theresa Davis have been active with United Way since moving to the community in 2002, and U.S. Bancorp is one of twelve Minnesota companies to generate $1 million or more annually for United Way.
