How Children Grow

1. Social and Emotional
How a child expresses feelings and emotions through interactions and relationships with their parents, family, other adults and children.

2. Language and Communication
How a child gains language and pre-reading skills as a way to communicate, get information, share ideas, thoughts and feelings.

3. Cognitive
How a child learns about and interprets information they receive through play and interaction with people, objects and their environment.

4. Physical and Motor Skills
How a child moves and controls their hands, arms, legs and whole body.  Physical health affects overall well-being and development in the other five areas.

5. Creativity and the Arts
How a child creates, responds to, and evaluates different forms of art as a way to express their abilities and creative interests.

6. Approaches to Learning
How a child uses different attitudes, behaviors and learning styles in interactions and in gaining information.
