Community Issues

  • Food shelf use increased 17.9 percent in Scott County from 2002 to 2003.
  • The number of Carver County residents age 55 and older is expected to grow dramatically, increasing the need for housing options such as assisted living, public transportation and other services for seniors.
  • Last year, Carver County residents made 623 calls to United Way 2-1-1™, a community resource and referral line. More than half of calls were for basic needs like rent assistance and help with paying utilities.
  • Scott County residents made 879 calls; more than 75 percent of calls were for basic needs issues.

Our Response

  • Last year, 677,600 meals were served to people in need throughout the nine-county region by United Way-supported programs.
  • Nurse visits, meals, respite care and home health aides to seniors are provided by United Way partner agencies like Carver County Community Social Services.
