Community Issues

  • Ramsey County has the lowest median household income in the nine-county region ($46,589) and the highest poverty rate at 11 percent.
  • Ramsey County’s population is changing and aging. The percent of people 65 and older is estimated to increase by 11 percent by 2010 and rise very quickly.
  • Last year, Ramsey County residents made over 62,000 calls to United Way 2-1-1™, our community resource and referral line. More than 75 percent of calls were requests for help meeting basic needs like food and shelter. 

Our Response

  • United Way Bright Smiles™ program provides oral healthcare to underserved immigrant populations in Ramsey County. It reached 3,584 children and their families last year.
  • Last year, 677,600 meals were served to people in need throughout the nine-county region by United Way-supported programs.
  • United Way 2-1-1™ is a free and confidential resource and referral line available 24/7.  Just dial 2-1-1.
