Department Marketing—Caring Connection
   
Summary

The person in this position will work directly with Caring Connection, the volunteer engagement program at United Way.

The intern will assist Caring Connection staff working with nonprofits to recruit needed volunteers. This will be accomplished through site visits with Caring Connection staff, phone communications with partner agencies and posting volunteer needs in an online system.

This is an unpaid position; however academic credit will be granted if the intern’s institution permits it. The internship will be located in the Minneapolis office of United Way, although some of the work can be done offsite

   
Location United Way Office, 404 South Eighth Street, downtown Minneapolis
   
Reports to Caring Connection managers and staff
   
Responsibilities
  • Assist posting volunteer opportunities in our online system.
  • Keep accurate records of volunteer projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff at nonprofits.
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition activities.
   
Qualifications
  • College student in a bachelor's degree program
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and working knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to work on multiple projects simultaneously
   
Time Commitment
  • Opportunity is immediately available
  • 3-month minumum committment is desired
  • Estimated 12-20 hours/weekl
  • Flexible schedule (hours to be scheduled around an 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. workday)
  • Some of the work can be done offsite (ex. at your residence)
