Summary

This internship position will work directly with marketing segment manager(s) and other department managers to develop a centralized, internal volunteer program placing individuals in unpaid positions at United Way.

The marketing intern will work with United Way staff to identify positions for volunteers, and develop and assist in executing strategies that recruit, train, and manage volunteers. Intern will be responsible for matching volunteers to positions that fit their interests.

Responsibilities
  • Work with United Way staff and partner agencies to identify individual volunteer positions (including skills-based positions) and prepare job descriptions for internal and external volunteer roles.
  • Develop an volunteer resource system for managing internal volunteers. System will include communicating processes, protocols and policies related to volunteerism.
  • Attend career and volunteer fairs to recruit individual volunteers, including college students and older adults.
  • Manage the placement and orientation of internal volunteers.
  • Assist in the development and execution of strategies to recruit and place volunteers of all ages, including baby boomers, in meaningful volunteer opportunities.
  • Identify and apply for external funding sources to assist in volunteer recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Assist in the development of nonprofit capacity building to improve use and retention of baby boomer volunteers.
  • Participate in Caring Connection events as needed.
   
Qualifications
  • College graduate or student in a degree program in marketing/communications, public relations, organizational development, nonprofit administration or liberal arts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication, leadership and excellent customer-service skills
   
Time Commitment
  • 6-month minimum commitment desired
  • Flexible hours, 20-30 hours/week
