Controller

United Way is seeking a hands-on-experienced controller who is a self-starter, earns the respect of his/her staff, peers and management, builds relationships and establishes ownership.  This position will be responsible for a staff of two.  This role requires a team player who successfully interacts with others.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage day to day financial operations.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports.
  • Manage external audit.
  • Review financial statements and tax returns.
  • Provide support for three committees.
  • Manage staff of two.
  • Lead in the development of the annual budget.
  • Provides financial information for strategic decisions.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and maintain effective internal control activities
  • Oversee cash management.
  • Partners with Information Technology staff to plan and implement systems needed to align financial functions with organizational needs.
  • Identify, oversee and/or support departmental special projects
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of the Finance Department’s policy and procedure manual

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven experience in managing the day to day operations of an accounting department including budget, financial management and reporting
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, internal control environments and systems
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Financial Accounting Standards Board
  • Outstanding proficiency with computerized accounting systems, including experience with software conversions; Great Plains, FrX and ADP a plus
  • Highly skilled in the use of MS Office, including Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter with excellent follow-through
  • Ability to collaboratively accomplish organizational goals
