2006 Program Support

In the second funding cycle from July 2006 through June 2007, the Council designated $198,000 to support:

• $17,600—CommonBond Communities, MN Reading Corp Initiative
  Provides literacy opportunities for young children in two different housing units.
• $25,000—Centro, Semillero de Lectores
  A lending library that opened on Sept. 30, 2005 and concurrently supports early literacy in young Latino children and literacy in their parents.
• $30,000—Joyce Preschool, Latino Access to School Readiness
  Dual Spanish-English immersion program serving children from different economic backgrounds.
• $50,000—YWCA of Minneapolis, Children's Center at Abbott Northwestern
  Childcare scholarships for low-income families
• $75,000—Way to Grow, Reach and Teach
  Home visiting program to develop a parent-centric model for school readiness.
