2005 Program Support

In its inaugural year the Council identified and invested in Little Ones and Literacy—a United Way Success By 6™ effort to improve children's early literacy skills, their excitement about reading and their family's involvement in literacy activities.

In the first funding cycle from September 2005 through August 2006 the Council invested $109,000 in these programs:

• $9,000—Lifetrack Resources
  Enabled a full-time Americorp volunteer to manage the early literacy program at the Lexington Public Library, coordinating volunteers and working with the children and their families.
• $50,000—Centro, Semillero de Lectores
  A Spanish lending library that opened on September 30.
• $50,000—Way to Grow, Play and Learn
  Weekly groups at the Minneapolis Public Library
