Beware of Bridge Scams

The FBI has issued a warning to the public about 35W bridge scams.

If approached by someone or an organization for money, the FBI suggests asking the solicitor several questions to ensure you aren't being scammed:

  1. Ask for the organization's taxpayer identification number.
  2. Try to identify the organization's legitimacy through Website resources and/or by contacting the Minnesota Better Business Bureau: 651-699-1111.
  3. For more information about nonprofit organizations, go to Charities Review Council's Website.
  4. Never provide personal or financial information to anyone who solicits for contributions.

Please note: The Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce is not undertaking fundraising efforts through the name "Chamber of Commerce"—a potential scam name.  A legitimate effort, however, is "Business Responds."
